Silverstone secures £4m contract to convert York city centre property into serviced apartments

Chartered building surveyors and project managers, Silverstone Building Consultancy, has secured a £4m contract to convert a vacant retail property in York city centre into a luxury aparthotel.

Silverstone is converting 4 – 6 Parliament Street, previously occupied by retailer New Look, into luxury, serviced apartments on behalf of Mansly Serviced Apartments, which has properties in London, Edinburgh, Inverness and Cheltenham.

The property - originally comprising three separate 19th-century buildings – is being redeveloped to merge all three structures, with the central building extended in height to align with the other two.

Twenty-three apartments will be developed on the basement, first and second floors.

Silverstone appointed Artium Construction as the main contractor, following a competitive tender process.

Construction recently started on site and will take 10 months to complete.

Associate director at Silverstone Building Consultancy, Josh Brown, said: “We’re looking forward to bringing a vacant property in a prime location back into use for people to enjoy once again.

“There will be challenges due to the property being located in a Conservation Area and also in a spot that has constricted access but we’re excited to be on site and seeing the transformation begin.”

Sir Richard Rowley, Chairman of Mansley Group, said: “We were delighted to find such a strong location in the historic and beautiful city of York to expand our portfolio of hand-picked serviced apartment blocks.

“We are equally excited at the prospect of being able to welcome guests in early 2027. Silverstone is project managing a main contractor and design team with focus, transparency and fairness.”

Silverstone Building Consultancy is a firm of chartered building surveyors and project managers with offices in Leeds, Newcastle and London.
